I married an Alaskan, spent 9 years in Oregon (we figured it was about half way in between Texas and Alaska), 15 years in Venezuela and finally made it back to Texas in 2000. I graduated from Wayland in 1974 and got my Masters from Golden Gate Seminary in San Francisco in 1984. I pastored the Valley Baptist Church in McMinnville, Oregon for the nine years we were there. I served as a church planter (we started 12 churches where there was none before) during the time we spent in Venezuela. Now I am pastor of the oldest continuously active Baptist church in Texas, the Independence Baptist Church in Independence. Sam Houston was baptized there in 1854 at the age of 61. Our convention also has a museum here so I also serve as its director. A few highlights of our life have been a year of language study in Costa Rica, floating 1200 miles of the Yukon River, spending 8 hours on the Orinoco River to take a medical team to a village in the Amazon territory, 3 months on an archeology site in Israel, and our twenty fifth wedding anniversary in the British Isles (next year, 2009, will be our thirty-fifth).
