Darla McAndrew

Darla Kay McAndrew, 72, a resident of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on April 27th, 2024. She was born on June 20th, 1951, to Bob and Wanda Kay in Plainview, Texas, and grew up in Dimmitt, TX. Darla found joy in drama clubs during her school years in Dimmitt, graduating from Dimmitt ISD in 1969 before pursuing higher education at Texas Tech University.
Following her studies, Darla ventured to California for a period before making Lubbock her home. She worked many years at UMC and dedicated her time and skills to Tyler Technologies for 21 years before retiring.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Darla was a beloved member of the poodle community, finding solace and camaraderie in the company of fellow enthusiasts. Her generous spirit extended to volunteering with the Salvation Army during the holiday season and supporting various charities, including the local food bank, demonstrating her commitment to community well-being. One of her favorite activities was spending cherished time with her granddaughter, Kaylee, particularly enjoying their shared passion for watching the Lady Raiders play basketball.
Darla found joy in the ocean’s beauty and the opportunity to travel, often meeting up with her poodle community across the United States.
Darla is preceded in death by her parents, Wanda and Bob Kay, her brother, Rocky Kay and brother-in-law, Max Ellison. She is survived by her daughter, Errin Todd, and husband, Steve, along with their children, Kaylee and Josh. Her sister, Delese Ellison, and her nieces and nephews: Josh Kay, Shay Kay, Kiera Kay, Dusty Kay, Krysta and Derion Johnson, Adrian Ellison, Sarah and Brad Wethington, Waylon Wethington, Zane Wethington. Along with many cousins and close friends, and her beloved poodle, Ivy.
A celebration of Darla’s life will be held at Lake Ridge Chapel in Lubbock on Sunday May 5th, welcoming friends and family to pay their respects. Additionally, an online gathering is available for those unable to attend in person.
